YUKATA
During these times of rapid globalization, and westernization i have noticed an ever so saddening trend. Youth across Asia are losing interest in and are shying away from traditional clothing (except during special holidays or events) and opting for more westernized looks. This is not a recent phenomenon as it's been happening for years. I myself am no exception, I don't own a Qipao (Traditional Chinese Clothing) or a Hanbok (traditional Korean clothing) and i can't even remember the last time i even wore my Barong or where it is for that matter.
I have always loved traditional clothing from around the Asia region. Thus, when a friend offered to lend me his grandfathers Yukata for this shoot I jumped at the chance. I was excited to be able to show you all, how traditional garments such as the Yukata can be combined with modern pieces to create great outfits. After shooting with the Yukata I feel inspired to find more traditional clothing from around the region and create outfits that will hopefully inspire other Asian youth to utilize their countries traditional clothing, making them stylish and modern once again.
