INSPIRED BY ASIA: ANDREW GN
This new series will cover the wonderful work of designers from the East, the West and beyond who are inspired by Asia and bridge the gap between the East and the West though Fashion.
Andrew Gn is the perfect example of a designer who is truly able to bridge the East and the West through his work. His contrasts and influences are fascinating, unexpected and beautiful.
The Singapore born France based designer is no stranger to success having been featured in notable online fashion publications such as Vogue and Instyle and has had his clothes worn by Hollywood A-listers such as Emma Stone.
His amazing creations embody great craftsmanship and talent. According to his website, an Andrew Gn woman is "unconventional, fun and approachable while being cultivated, aesthetically inspired and international" and his pre-fall 2018 collection is no exception.
Inspired by Japan the Andrew Gn Pre-fall 2018 collection features beautiful cocktail dresses and coats with playful patterns and glowing gowns beautiful embroidery. Last month on Vouge.com Andrew described his inspiration for the collection as “Jackie O decides to go to Tokyo to meet the royal Imperial family of Japan and makes a stopover in Kyoto,”
The heavy Japanese influence of this collection is something that those who wish to create Asian inspired garments should look to as a great example of how its properly done. Andrew Gn has created a collection that doesn't just look like it is inspired by the east but feels like it too. As someone who has grown up in Asia and who works in the fashion industry looking through this pre-fall look-book felt extremely refreshing. Seeing a collection that referenced a specific Asian culture and was not overdone felt like a breath of fresh air.
If this collection is any indication of what is to come next season I'll be patiently waiting with excitement because now I'm officially a fan of the magic of Andrew Gn.
