INSIDE THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF MAXXIJ
Whilst in Seoul last October for Fashion Week I had the pleasure to meet and get to know one of South Korea's most talented designers MAXXIJ. After graduating from the prestigious London College of Fashion the designer launched his label of the same name three short years ago and after a successful SS18 Seoul Fashion Week debut, MAXXIJ has since become one of the most watched and most talked about designers within South Korea's fashion industry.
A true creative genius who draws his inspiration from the theories fashion and identity, MAXXIJ'S design philosophy emphasizes the liberation and recreation of identity through fashion. I grasped a better understanding of this philosophy when I had the privilege of visiting the designer's ultra-cool showroom/studio located in Seoul's neighborhood of Gangnam.
From the moment one enters MAXXIJ's creative space it's as if they are transported to another world. His latest collection was on display amidst a funky layout featuring a DJ station, Mini Runway with a digital photo screen, plush couches with a chic coffee table to match. I felt as if I was Alice in fashion wonderland, stepping into a room with such immense creative energy.
I took my time as I handled each piece of the new SS18 collection with care, soaking in every fine detail that I could whilst resisting my urge to buy every single piece right then and there. Getting up close and personal with the collection made me wish even more that I had attended the actual show as I heard that everything from the music to the models was executed with such perfection.
MAXXIJ's debut Fashion Week collection was inspired by an imaginary street named “ECCENTRIC ST that focused on expressing unique characters was one that truly stands tall and strong against other designers who participated in Seoul Fashion Week SS18. Bringing a whole new meaning to the term street style by mixing tones that compliment each other in such an amazing way, MAXXIJ Lee's freshness and unique philosophy have truly set him apart from the crowd, creating a brand that does not only follow trends in its own unique way but also sets them. More example of this can also be seen in the label's previous collections (which were not shown in a fashion week) titled The Masquerade 1 and The Masquerade 2 respectively.
As we enter the new year I am begging to grow more and more impatient for March to arrive so that I can cover what the mastermind of fashion MAXXIJ does next. Until then take a look at images from his debut ss18 collection as well as The Masquerade 1 and The Masquerade 2 collections.
